This is new! We’re back at Holly Rec but something is quite different. We’ve moved the 2nd of our two annual Holly Rec Triathlons to a Wednesday night! Some of our team have taken quite a liking to late day events and thought maybe you would too.
Improve upon your time from the early season race at Holly with this great late summer venue. Located in the backyard of Detroit and the Tri Valley areas, Holly Rec is a beautiful park that offers outstanding swim lakes and a fun enclosed bike course. The bike and swim portions of the race will in fact be on a closed course and will provide some unique challenges. Tri To Finish is committed to making this a memorable event for both participants and spectators by ensuring a festive finish line experience for every participant – from first to last.

Holly Recreation Area (Heron Lake)
8100 Grange Hall Rd.
Holly, MI 48442
Holly Recreation Area provides a great venue for a multisport event. The swim will take place in Heron Lake (located at the front of the park). Olympic athletes will complete a two loop triangular swim course. Sprint athletes will complete a single triangular swim course. The bike portion covers a challenging (but FUN!) hilly/paved out and back closed course. Olympic athletes will cover the out and back 4 times. Sprint and Duathlon athletes will complete the out and back course twice. The run will exit the park and traverse dirt/gravel roads on a shaded out and back course. Olympic athletes will run to 5km to their turnaround point while Sprint and Duathlon athletes will run the same course, but only to the 2.5km mark before turning around and heading toward the finish line. All athletes will finish back at Heron Lake.
Late Registration and Packet Pickup
You must bring a valid ID and will only be allowed to pick up your own packet.
As this is a sanctioned USAT event, ALL participants MUST have a valid USAT Membership card that MUST be presented at registration (or packet pickup if number wasn’t entered during online registration). Annual and One Day USAT Memberships are available for purchase on-site.
*PLEASE NOTE that this event takes place at a State Park that requires a Recreation Passport decal to enter. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources no longer issues day passes to State Parks. All vehicles will be required to show or purchase a Recreation Passport for $11. This pass allows entry to over 100 State Parks for one year and can also be used for discounts at businesses across the state. For more information go to: RECREATION PASSPORT INFORMATION
* Online Registration closes at Midnight, Monday, August 24th, 2015. After that, ALL registrations will be completed on-site at late registration/packet pickup at the increased rate.
Personalized Bibs (with participant names!) are available to those who register before NOON on Wednesday, August 12th
Holly Recreation Area, located 12 miles north of Pontiac, can be reached from I-75 by departing onto Grange Hall Road (exit 101). To the east just past Dixie Highway is the park headquarters. From here Grange Hall Road curves sharply to the north. Continuing east is McGinnis Road, which passes the entrances to the campground and the day-use areas on Heron and Valley lakes.
Olympic Start: 6:00 PM
Sprint Start: 6:03 PM
Duathlon Start: 6:06 PM
Plenty of parking is available to participants in the lot at Heron Lake. Additional parking can be found at the boat launch (See course map above).
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS EVENT WILL BE ON A CLOSED COURSE. THE ENTIRE PARK WILL BE CLOSED TO NON-EVENT VEHICLE TRAFFIC AT APPROXIMATELY 5:30 PM. Please arrive early to ensure you are allowed to enter the park.
ONLY athletes (and parents for Youth Participants) are allowed in the transition area. Once transition closes, it will remain closed to athletes until the LAST biker has exited transition. The Transition Captain may choose to begin allowing early access to a limited numbers of athletes to retrieve their gear but this will be at his/her discretion. If given access, PLEASE remain respectful of athletes who are still competing and may be entering/exiting transition. Safety is foremost, but security is important too so you must exit transition at the point deemed proper by the Transition Captain.
Planning to participate? Awesome! Please review this linked list of USAT Commonly Violated Rules to be prepared.
Event-specific T-shirts are guaranteed ONLY to those who register online before Noon on Thursday, August 20th! All registrants after that date/time will be provided with a TriToFinish t-shirt if event-specific shirts are unavailable on site.
Tri To Finish is committed to making this a memorable event for the participants and spectators alike. Every finisher from first to last will enjoy an exciting finish line. All participants will receive a high quality event t-shirt and finisher medal.
OVERALL FASTEST MALE & FEMALE in the Olympic Tri, Sprint Tri, and Sprint Distance Duathlon wins free entry to next years race as well as a yet to be announced award.
Podium Presentation for OVERALL winners of each event – Male and Female – will begin approximately 15 minutes after the last Overall Winner crosses the finish line for each event.
AGE GROUP Awards for each event will begin ONLY after the last participant in that event crosses the finish line (or once event cutoff time has been reached). Participants MUST be present to receive Age Group Awards*.
* We apologize for any inconvenience this presents, but we truly believe that each Multisport Event is exactly that: an EVENT. Age Groupers finish at different times throughout races. It is unfair and unsportsmanlike to begin ceremonies for which a participant may be eligible if that participant has not yet reached the finish line. Please be courteous of and encouraging to fellow athletes.
NOTE: All participants will receive a finisher medal upon completion of their event at the finish line
